About the Artist
Hi there! I’m Sarah: the Artist and lover of colour, animals and nature.
I’m 35 years old and love my little patch of land on the Mornington Peninsula where I enjoy hanging out with my handy husband, my cheeky Australian Shepherd and my elderly but classy Russian Blue.
My Dad’s favourite thing to say about me is that ‘I was born with a pencil in my hand’ which is definitely not true, but what he is trying to say is that from a young age I always had a big thing for drawing, painting and creating.
As for my education in art, my disappointed maths teachers will tell you I devoted a lot of time to my art and my wonderful art teacher will tell you I gave it my EVERYTHING and more, which I still do. My career started early with the pile of school diaries I would have piled up next to me to illustrate for free for my happy clients.
I completed a diploma of illustration, which I loved, so I started at Uni next, doing a double bachelor of visual arts and teaching.
I quickly realised that my kind of art wasn’t really their thing and I wasn’t too keen on the bizarre installations they were encouraging either. I much preferred creating colourful, happy pieces of the things I loved, in the way I wanted to create them. I felt most proud of my work when it came from my heart.
Animals and nature have been the loves of my artistic life since I was a child and nothing has changed. Mum had a real love for colourful birds and it definitely rubbed off on me. We had a big artwork with all these 80’s style parrots hanging in our lounge room and I really dug it. I love the shapes and colours of our native fauna and flora and my travels of the world have only made me love the diversity of our natural world even more.
My favourite mediums are watercolours and acrylics but I’ll try just about anything! I’m an all or nothing kind of person, so when I get started on a piece of art, you can guarantee that I’ll be glued to it for hours and hours on end. My friend calls it ‘hyper focus mode’ and she’s right – it’s intense!
Nothing gives me more of a thrill than watching what’s in my head spill out onto paper or canvas. I find absolute joy in applying colour. I love watching the creatures I paint come to life and take on a personality of their own. I love it even more when I get to share them with people and they actually LIKE IT. I feel completely humbled to have so much support.
It’s a huge deal making the call to put my artwork out there into the big world. The adventure of offering my very first print collection is exhilarating and terrifying all at the same time.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for being here with me and being interested enough in my work to read this far. I am SO EXCITED to bring you high quality, colour rich, happy prints to hang in your home and enjoy.
Thanks for the love – right back at you! X Sarah
